A book cover designed for Ozarks Hollow Press. The client asked for something “gritty” and “crime noir” and asked that the location of the story (Des Moines, Iowa) was featured in the design.
While there were not many identifiable photos of the Des Moines skyline, I managed to find this one, that was not only recognizable as Des Moines, but perfectly fit the gritty, noir character of the book.
The simple text was chosen to make a bold and eye-catching statement against the more sedate photograph. The color was taken from one of the lighter areas of the photograph.
