This poster was created for the Design for Democracy campaign and poster competition sponsored by AIGA.  In the design of this poster, I combined two disparate influences for this poster that was designed for the 2024 AIGA "Get Out the Vote" poster competition. One of those influences was WPA posters made for the National Park Service, which is where I got my pastel color palette. The second influence was a book of drawings called "COVID-19 Labor Camp Report" created by Piotr Szyhalski. The composition and text treatment of my poster were heavily influenced by Szyhalski's work as well as Russian constructivism.
One of the biggest challenges of the text was how to treat the “for your vision of” portion of the “vote for your vision of America” slogan. While I wanted to mimic the contrast of text treatments in Szyhalski’s work, I was initially trying for too much contrast. In the end, I went with more minimal contrast to keep the elements balanced. However, the variety still shows in the size, orientation and color of the text.  It was also a fairly significant challenge to convert the strong vertical composition to the square format of the social media square.  To solve this problem, I simplified the composition somewhat, changed the "VOTE" text orientation and placed the letters between the rays of the sun.  Some subtle changes were also made to the color palette.
